Synopsis[]

Carrie accidentally tells the wrong Doug she loves him. Doug volunteers to be a Big Brother.

Storyline[]

Doug decides to become a "Big Brother" and agrees to participate in a 10 kilometer race supporting heart disease. After Deacon tells him he's a Big Brother, Doug feels bad because he doesn't give anything back to society and decides to become a Big Brother as well. Unfortunately for Doug, the boy that's assigned to him doesn't seem to be very enthusiastic, to say the least. Meanwhile, Carrie accidentally says 'I love you' when she's on the phone with Doug Pruzan, one of her bosses.

Trivia/Notes[]

  • Note: Larry Romano and Jerry Stiller both are credited but do not appear in this episode.
  • When Doug is still running the 10k, and Carrie drives by him in their car trying to make him stop, there is a "Clinton/Gore" sticker on the front bumper, referring to the administration of President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore.
  • This episode aired in April of 2000, when Gore was running in the Democratic primary against Senator Bill Bradley of New Jersey and political activist Lyndon LaRouche. Gore would handily win the party's nomination, following Bradley's withdrawal from the race more than a month before this episode aired. After Gore eventually became the party's nominee, he would go on to face Republican George W. Bush in one of the most historic and controversial elections in modern American history.

Goofs[]

Errors in geography

The arcade where Doug brings his little brother is on Bay Ridge Ave ( according to the street sign ) which is in Brooklyn not Queens. Of course Doug could have gone there but Deacon also shows up and that would be quite the coincidence for both of them to end up in Brooklyn especially since Deacon is surprised to see Doug, so it wasn't planned.

Miscellaneous

When Doug reaches behind the bed to find the book, he appears to pull the cord for the lamp which falls down. As the lamp falls you can see there is no cord attached to the lamp.

Quotes

  • Doug: Do you think I'm a big sack of crap?
  • Carrie: Have you been reading my diary?

  • Doug: I just found out that Deacon is a Big Brother.
  • Carrie: You just figured that out now?
  • Doug: No, I don't mean he's a big brotha', I mean he's a Big Brother.

  • Doug Pruzan: This a good time to talk?
  • Carrie: Yes, yes, it's perfect.
  • Doug Pruzan: So Carrie...where are we at here?
  • Carrie: Here's the thing, Doug. I hope you don't think I'm an idiot, but, ummm, my husband's name is also Doug, so when I was on the phone with you and I said, "Doug", the words "I love you", they just came out automatically, you see? Like "hachoo" and "God bless you. They're a team.
  • Doug Pruzan: That's what this was?
  • Carrie: Yup. So... don't love ya!
  • Doug Pruzan: Well, I was on the plane and you said that, and I was like, "Where'd that come from?"
  • Carrie: Right. Funny story, though, right?
  • Doug Pruzan: Yeah, that is funny. Guess I shouldn't have dumped my fiancee and gotten us Springsteen tickets.
  • Carrie: Guess not. (Doug shows her the tickets) Fourth row.
  • Doug Pruzan: (now embarrassed) I gotta make a phone call! (Doug walks out of the office to make the phone call)
  • Carrie: (as Doug walks away) Nice butt, though.
