Holly Shumpert King of Queens

Nicole Sullivan appeared on "The King of Queens" as Holly from 2001-2005.

Holly Shumpert is a cheerful, dog-walker hired by Doug and Carrie to look after Arthur. She is often seen arriving at the Heffernan house to pick up Arthur, but is also a family friend of the Heffernans. She is often viewed by others as a bit strange because of her habits and some of the men she dates (not to mention her habit of over-drinking, to which she openly confesses). Holly was written out of the series at the end of season eight, but she later returned one last time for the series finale.

Holly is played by actress/comedian Nicole Sullivan, who, before her stint on the King of Queens, was a cast member on the Saturday late night Fox television sketch comedy series MadTV.

Personality[]

Holly is a gentle soul, kind and cheerful. She tolerates Arthur's antics, lending him money despite his poor reputation for paying people back, and accepting being sneaked into a movie theater as payment. Despite her good nature, she is frequently attracted to men who are the opposite, resulting in frequent heartache. She is insecure, often allowing people to take advantage of her, and thoughtful, cooking for Doug and Carrie when the latter has cold.

About Holly[]

Holly was initially hired by Spence to walk his dog Allan. Later in the same episode, Doug hires her to walk Arthur and as a result, she stops walking Allan (although it is later mentioned that she has begun walking Allan again). Danny and Spence have on occasion been seen competing for her attention, however it is ironically suggested that they are the only two men she has no interest in; men that she has been attracted to include (but are not limited to) Deacon and a burglar who robbed Doug and Carrie. In one episode, Holly asks Carrie (referring to her inability to find a boyfriend), "What am I doing wrong? I give them money, I let them stay at my house."

When Holly eventually meets Carl, a man who seems genuine, she decides to move in with him into his Manhattan apartment, away from her clients meaning that she will no longer be able to walk Arthur. Carrie's initial suspiciousness of Carl slowly turns into jealousy, that Holly is getting everything she wanted: marrying a wealthy man and living in a penthouse apartment in Manhattan.

Holly loves dogs, and grew up wanting to be a dog walker. Several story lines point to her being a talented cook; on one occasion Deacon asks her to help him prepare a Thanksgiving dinner instead of Carrie after tasting her apple pie. She briefly lives with Doug, Carrie and Arthur and is shown to be an excellent homemaker.
