Veronica Olchin, or Veronica Olchin-Spooner, is the mother of Spence Olchin (Patton Oswalt), and is characterized as emotionally disturbed and alcoholic when she was introduced to TV audiences in the first season of The King of Queens, with actress Grace Zabriskie in the part. While the character Veronica Olchin would reappear peroidically throughout the series, Zabriskie would not portray her again, having been replaced by veteran actress/comedienne Anne Meara, Jerry Stiller's wife and one half of their 1960's-1970's comedy act Stiller & Meara, during that first season. Meara would become a recurring cast member during the fourth season, 2001, and remain a supporting player in the series, eventually with Veronica courting and then marrying Arthur Spooner (played by husband Jerry Stiller) in the series' finale episode.
